Dr. A. Kumaravel is a Professor and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department. He obtained his Ph.D. in the field of Machine Design from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in the year 2008. He was awarded Masters in Technology in Industrial Tribology from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Government College of Engineering, Salem.
He has an ironic teaching experience of 28 years and worked in various teaching positions. He is serving as Head of the Department from 2008. With his extraordinary performance, he has published 41 International journals and presented his works in 26 International conferences in Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Science and in affiliated institutions in various parts of the Country. He has presented a research paper in 14th International Conference on Sound and Vibration (ICSV14), at Cairns Convention Center, Cairns, Australia. He has also visited to Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of New South Wales, Australia and National University of Singapore, Singapore. He has also delivered a number of Guest talks in and outside the campus premises.
He has received funds from the various agencies for a sum of 1,235,000 which includes 1,000,000 from MODROBS for the modernization of laboratories. His research area includes the Smart materials, Stress analysis on smart materials, functionally graded Materials, Natural and Metal matrix composites and Tribology. As a Research supervisor, he is currently guiding 08 Ph.D. Students and 06 of his Scholars Completed their Doctoral degree under his guidance.
He has been recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer in June 2016 for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Elsevier Journal and Recognized as a Best Reviewer in January 2016 for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Elsevier Journal. He has received Best Engineer award from The Institution of Engineers (India) - Salem Local Centre and Received Best Academic Administrator Award from TOP ENGINEERS, Chennai.
Dr. A. Kumaravel is a life member of various professional bodies like Institution for Engineers (India), Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE), International Society for Research and Development (ISRD), Indian Society of Mechanical Engineers (ISME), Indian Academic Researchers Association (IARA), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Chartered Engineer, The Indian Science Congress Association, Tribology Society of India, Society for failure Analysis (SFA). He was appointed as Evaluator/Chairman of Visiting Team of National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi. He has been reviewer in a number of journals and acted as Chair Person in a number of International and National Conferences. He has played various roles in organizing various programmes in the campus premises as Convener, Coordinator, Chairman, etc., He also takes charge as Coordinator of various co-curricular activities like Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE), PALS – IIT, Entrepreneurship Development Cell in the campus.
